This course will explore the subgenre known as “Southern Ontario Gothic,†a celebrated branch of Canadian literature that simultaneously defines a region and revises British and American literary traditions of the Gothic. By comparing notable Canadian, British, and Southern Gothic texts, we will illustrate the innovative qualities of local writing.
