This course provides an introduction to the history, aesthetics, and cultural contexts of Horror Film, with a focus on its thematic varieties, including: Monster Horror; Psychological Horror; Body Horror; Cosmic Horror; Folk Horror; Media Horror; and Black Horror. Assignments include in-class scene analyses, research proposal and essay, and final exam.
At least 60% in Film Studies 1020E or Film Studies 1022, or 1.0 of English 1000-1999 plus English 2112F/G, Film Studies 2212F/G, or Theatre Studies 2212F/G, or permission of the department.
2 lecture/seminar hours, three-hour film screening block (online, or in-person, or hybrid).
