This course explores why people accept, hold, and communicate falsehoods, unsupported beliefs, rumours, fake news or conspiracy theories, by examining the psychological and political determinants of misinformation and conspiracy theory beliefs, and the implications for self, society and politics. The course asks how unsupported beliefs can be corrected and avoided.
Enrolment in 3rd or 4th year Main Campus Political Science.
