This course explores stand-up comedy through religious and spiritual lenses, focusing on themes of suffering, liberation, taboo, the sacred and profane, and laughter as transcendence. Students examine a diversity of comedy traditions and the historical and contemporary role of stand-up in challenging authority and injustice, and fostering dialogue and empathy.
